Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a dedicated HSE Officer to lead health, safety and environmental oversight across mining sites from a fully remote location near Paarl. The role focuses on developing and implementing HSE policies, auditing sites, investigating incidents, and promoting a strong safety culture across operations.

Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least 5 years of mining-experienced HSE work, with knowledge of MHSA, NEMA and ISO 14001/45001.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years' experience as an HSE professional with mining exposure.
• Knowledge of South African mining regulations (MHSA, NEMA) and ISO 14001/45001.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain HSE management systems.
• Conduct regular site audits and risk assessments for hazards and non‑compliance.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses; document findings and recommend corrective actions.
• Deliver HSE training programs to employees at all levels.
• Monitor compliance with legislation and industry best practices in mining.
• Prepare HSE reports for management and regulators.
