Job summary

Reach Out and Read Northwest is seeking a Development Specialist to advance fundraising through grant writing, reporting, and donor stewardship. You will collaborate with the Associate Director of Development and program teams to draft proposals, manage grants, and ensure timely, accurate funder communications.

We value equity, rigorous writing, and teamwork. This fully remote role requires Washington State residency and occasional travel, with a compensation range of $70,000 to $75,000 annually.

Qualifications

• Approximately two to three years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, development, or a related role where writing was a regular part of the work.
• Commitment to equity in opportunities and outcomes for children, with recognition of race, ethnicity, language, and socioeconomic status.
• Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, able to turn information from multiple sources into clear narratives.
• Strong project management skills with ability to juggle deadlines and follow through on details.
• Collaborative approach with a track record of working across teams and keeping colleagues informed.
• Comfort working with data and ensuring accurate, up-to-date records.
• Self-motivation and ability to work independently in a remote environment while staying connected to the team.
• Experience supporting grant proposals, reports, compliance, or donor stewardship (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Draft foundation and corporate proposals and reports under supervision.
• Translate program impact into funder-aligned narratives and boilerplate adaptations.
• Coordinate grant reporting: gather information, prepare drafts, and ensure timely submissions.
• Maintain proposal templates and boilerplate language, using Canva or similar tools.
• Support prospect research and funder qualification as requested.
• Manage Northwest grants calendar and plan ahead to meet deadlines.
• Track grant requirements and timelines in Asana for content and approvals.
• Prepare agendas and materials for biweekly development team meetings.
• Enter and maintain grant/donor data in Salesforce with accuracy.
• Run recurring Salesforce reports (monthly/quarterly) to aid planning.
• Communicate grant requirements to leadership and finance with backups.
• Facilitate donor acknowledgements and timely responses to funders.
• Prepare materials for stewardship meetings and join funder meetings when needed.
• Draft follow-up applications and communications from opportunities.
• Support additional development projects as needed.
