Coinbase is a remote-first company with quarterly in-person surges to collaborate on high-impact projects. We seek a founding engineer to shape Compliance automation, building and deploying LLM-based workflows that scale with regulatory needs.

You will partner with Compliance leaders and engineering to translate complex regulatory work into secure, auditable systems while driving adoption and ensuring responsible AI use.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering in production systems.
• Hands-on with deploying LLM-based applications and prompt engineering.
• Experience embedding with non-technical domain experts.
• Familiarity with transaction monitoring and sanctions screening.
• Knowledge of audit-ready data handling.
• Understanding multi-agent orchestration and handoffs.
• Experience in compliance-tech or RegTech settings.

Responsibilities

• Embed with Compliance leadership to surface the automation opportunities with greatest business leverage.
• Prototype quickly using Coinbase's AI platform as the default foundation before recommending net-new builds.
• Own the Compliance automation roadmap in partnership with the Chief Compliance Officer and Compliance leadership.
• Define build-vs-buy strategy for Compliance tooling and evaluate what to build, adopt, procure, or retire.
• Ensure every automated compliance output is traceable, reviewable, and defensible to regulators with auditability and human-in-the-loop controls.
• Drive adoption through brown-bags, prototype walkthroughs, and feedback loops that bring Compliance teams along on the journey.
