Job summary

Coinbase, Inc. is seeking a founding engineer to embed with Compliance, identifying automation opportunities across transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, and regulatory change management.

You will rapidly prototype using Coinbase's AI platform and drive adoption across Compliance teams. You will partner with the Chief Compliance Officer to translate complex regulatory workflows into engineering requirements, define a build-vs-buy strategy, and ensure auditability and human-in-the-loop

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering with production systems in ambiguous, stakeholder-heavy environments.
• Hands-on experience deploying LLM-based applications with prompt engineering, evaluation frameworks, guardrails, and human-in-the-loop design.
• Ability to embed with non-technical domain experts and translate workflows into engineering requirements.
• Familiarity with compliance/regulatory concepts: transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, regulatory filing workflows, case management, audit-ready data handling.
• Familiarity with multi-agent orchestration and how agent systems handle handoffs, escalation, and auditability.
• Experience in Forward Deployed Engineering, Solutions Engineering, or embedded advisory roles in compliance/fintech.
• Use of generative AI responsibly with human oversight to improve workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Responsibilities

• Embed with Compliance leadership and frontline teams to surface high-leverage automation opportunities.
• Prototype quickly using Coinbase's AI platform as the default foundation; avoid unnecessary new builds.
• Own the Compliance automation roadmap with leadership, translating regulatory workflows into engineering requirements.
• Define build-vs-buy strategy for Compliance tooling and determine internal builds vs. vendor procurements.
• Ensure every automated output is traceable, auditable, and regulator-ready with proper controls.
• Drive adoption through demos, workshops, and iterative feedback with Compliance teams.
