Job summary

Coinbase’s Legal organization seeks a founding engineer to embed with Legal, prototype AI solutions on the existing platform, and drive measurable workflow improvements. You will translate complex legal workflows into engineering requirements and shape the automation roadmap with senior Legal leadership.

The role emphasizes responsible AI use, human oversight, and ensuring outputs are auditable and compliant, with a focus on contract reviews, regulatory filings, and governance processes.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience in ambiguous, stakeholder-heavy environments.
• Hands-on experience deploying LLM-based applications with prompt engineering, evaluation, and human-in-the-loop design.
• Able to embed with non-technical domain experts and translate workflows into engineering requirements.
• Familiarity with contract lifecycle management, regulatory filings, entity governance, and privilege-sensitive data handling.
• Open to learning and familiar with multi-agent orchestration, escalation, and auditability.

Responsibilities

• Embed with Legal leadership to surface automation opportunities with greatest business leverage.
• Prototype quickly using Coinbase's AI platform as baseline before building new solutions.
• Own the Legal automation roadmap in partnership with leadership, translating workflows into engineering requirements.
• Define build-vs-buy strategy for Legal tooling, including internal builds and vendor solutions.
• Ensure automated outputs are traceable, reviewable, and defensible with proper controls.
• Drive adoption through trainings and feedback loops to ensure tools are used.
