Job summary

Coinbase, Inc. is seeking a founding engineer within the Legal organization, embedded in the Office of the CTO, to surface automation opportunities and rapidly prototype AI-driven solutions.

You'll bridge Legal stakeholders and engineering to define requirements, build responsibly, and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency. Responsibilities include embedding with Legal leadership, prototyping on Coinbase's AI platform, and defining the automation roadmap alongside senior

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience in ambiguous, stakeholder-heavy environments.
• Hands-on experience deploying LLM-based applications and evaluating them.
• Ability to embed with non-technical domain experts and translate workflows into engineering requirements.
• Familiarity with contract lifecycle management, regulatory filings, and governance workflows.
• Open to learning and adapting in legal-tech, compliance-tech, or RegTech contexts.
• Experience with multi-agent orchestration, handoffs, escalation, and auditability.
• Commitment to responsible AI with human oversight for quality and cost improvements.

Responsibilities

• Embed with Legal leadership to surface automation opportunities with greatest business leverage.
• Prototype quickly using Coinbase's AI platform as the foundation for further builds.
• Own the Legal automation roadmap in partnership with leadership, translating workflows into engineering requirements.
• Define build-vs-buy strategy for Legal tooling and determine what to build, adapt, procure, or retire.
• Ensure automated outputs are traceable, reviewable, and defensible with proper controls.
• Drive adoption through brownbags, prototype walkthroughs, and feedback loops with Legal teams.
