Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a senior software engineer to lead Compliance automation initiatives and embed with regulatory teams. You will prototype AI-enabled workflows and translate complex regulatory requirements into engineering specs.

You will define roadmaps, drive build-vs-buy decisions, and ensure auditability and human-in-the-loop oversight across the compliance platform. This is a remote-first role with quarterly in-person surges.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with a track record shipping production systems in ambiguous, stakeholder-heavy environments.
• Hands-on experience deploying LLM-based applications, including prompt engineering, evaluation frameworks, hallucination guardrails, and human-in-the-loop design for high-stakes compliance outputs.
• Proven ability to embed with non-technical domain experts, rapidly internalize complex workflows, and translate them into engineering requirements.
• Familiarity with compliance and regulatory systems concepts: transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, regulatory filing workflows, case management, and audit-ready data handling.
• Familiarity with multi-agent orchestration concepts including handoffs, escalation, and auditability.
• Experience in Forward Deployed Engineering, Solutions Engineering, or embedded technical advisory roles in compliance-tech or financial services.
• Uses generative AI responsibly, with human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and measurable improvements.

Responsibilities

• Embed with Compliance leadership and frontline teams to surface automation opportunities with the greatest business leverage.
• Prototype quickly using Coinbase's AI platform as the foundation, before suggesting net-new builds.
• Own the Compliance automation roadmap in partnership with Compliance leadership, translating regulatory workflows into engineering requirements.
• Define build-vs-buy strategy for Compliance tooling and evaluate internal builds vs vendors.
• Ensure every automated output is traceable, reviewable, and defensible to regulators with auditability and human-in-the-loop controls.
• Drive adoption through brown-bags, prototype walkthroughs, and feedback loops with Compliance teams.
