Job summary

Samsara, the pioneer of the Connected Operations Cloud, is seeking a Firmware Engineer in San Francisco to build software for millions of devices. You will shape hardware platforms, bring up new boards from virgin silicon, and design the layers from bootloaders to device management while collaborating with hardware, cloud, and QA teams.

You’ll work with C on MCU platforms and Golang on embedded/Linux gateways, focusing on power, reliability, and scalable data for enterprise customers.

Qualifications

• 2+ years building firmware for resource-constrained systems.
• Fluency in C.
• Bare-metal and RTOS experience - Zephyr, FreeRTOS, or equivalent.
• You have helped bring up new boards.
• Fluency in the low-level interfaces - SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, ADC.
• Real bench instincts using oscilloscope or analyzers.
• Cross-team collaboration across hardware, firmware, cloud and quality.
• Cross-layer judgment linking driver decisions to user experience.
• You write design docs, review comments, and post-mortems.
• You ship fast with automated testing and quality.
• You use AI to augment your workflow.

Responsibilities

• Shape the hardware, not just the code that runs on it.
• Bring up new platforms and prototypes from virgin silicon.
• Build the layers everything else depends on: drivers, bootloaders, device firmware updates, and core management.
• Design protocols and hardware management for battery-powered sensors and gateways.
• Collaborate with product, full-stack, mobile and QA to ensure data lands in dispatchers' hands.
• Raise the bar for engineers around you and help Samsara scale globally.
