Job summary

Samsara is seeking a Firmware Engineer to join our team in shaping hardware and software for our cloud-connected sensors. You will work on MCU-based platforms using C, bring up new boards, and build robust firmware with drivers, bootloaders, and update mechanisms.

You’ll collaborate with product, cloud, and QA to ensure reliable data for fleet and industrial customers. Expect a role in a flexible, remote-friendly environment that values fast iteration, production-ready prototypes, and impactful

Qualifications

• 2+ years building firmware for resource-constrained systems.
• Fluency in C. You can read a linker map and a stack trace.
• Solid bare-metal and RTOS experience (Zephyr, FreeRTOS or similar).
• Helped bring up new boards from prototypes to production.
• Fluent with SPI, I2C, UART, CAN and ADC interfaces.
• Strong bench testing and debugging instincts.

Responsibilities

• Shape hardware alongside electrical engineers, selecting components and validating prototypes.
• Bring up new boards from virgin silicon and enable basic functionality quickly.
• Build layers like drivers, secure bootloaders, and firmware update mechanisms.
• Design power and connectivity management to maximize device life.
• Develop data pathways so firmware outputs are reliable for dispatchers and technicians.
• Collaborate across product, full-stack, mobile, and QA to ensure end-to-end quality.
