Job summary

Samsara is seeking a Firmware Engineer to build software that runs on millions of devices, from bringing up new boards to shaping power-aware firmware for battery-powered sensors and gateways. You’ll influence hardware choices and develop drivers, bootloaders, and data-handling capabilities for scalable, real-world deployments.

Qualifications

• 2+ years building firmware for resource-constrained systems.
• Fluency in C and ability to read a linker map, stack traces, and memory dumps.
• Experience with bare-metal or RTOS environments (Zephyr, FreeRTOS) and hardware bring-up.
• Ability to design and debug low-level interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, ADC).
• Experience shaping hardware through review processes and board bring-up on prototypes.

Responsibilities

• Shape the hardware, not just the code that runs on it.
• Be the first to bring up new boards and prototypes from virgin silicon, configuring I/O and enabling communications.
• Build the layers firmware depends on, including drivers, bootloaders, and update mechanisms.
• Design power-management and data protocols for battery-powered sensors and gateways.
• Collaborate across product, full-stack, mobile and QA to ensure data arrives intact for operations teams.
