Job summary

Samsara is seeking a Firmware Engineer to develop software for millions of deployed devices. You will shape hardware selection, bring up new boards, and build essential firmware layers including bootloaders, drivers, and device management.

Qualifications

• 2+ years building firmware for resource-constrained systems.
• Fluency in C.
• Solid bare-metal and RTOS experience (Zephyr, FreeRTOS, or equivalent).
• Help bring up new boards and prototypes from virgin silicon.
• Fluency in low-level interfaces - SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, ADC.
• Ability to debug hardware and firmware interfaces.
• Cross-team collaboration across hardware, firmware, cloud and QA.
• Design docs, reviews and post-mortems to aid actionability.
• Ship fast with automated testing and code you would be comfortable inheriting.
• Use AI smartly as part of daily workflow.

Responsibilities

• Shape the hardware decisions by participating in reviews and selecting SoC, flash/RAM, and sensor combos.
• Bring up new boards and prototypes from virgin silicon and validate designs.
• Build drivers and core layers: bootloaders, device management, and power/connectivity.
• Design protocols to optimize battery-powered sensors and gateways for long life.
• Collaborate with product, full-stack, mobile and QA to ensure data integrity and usefulness.
• Raise the bar through reviews, documentation, and iterative delivery as Samsara scales.
