Job summary

GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking an Assistant Cultural Resources Technician 1 to support projects across the Southwestern region. The role involves identifying, excavating, and recording sites following federal/state archaeological standards.

Projects may include Phase I–III investigations and both historical and prehistoric contexts. The position requires basic field skills, the ability to work outdoors in varying weather, and willingness to travel.

Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of field-related archaeology experience or equivalent
  • B.A./B.S. in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, Historic Preservation, American Studies or related field; field school enrollment acceptable
  • Able to walk 8–10 miles daily in rugged terrain with gear; physically capable in outdoor conditions
  • Follows safety policies and maintains client confidentiality

Responsibilities

  • Excavate, screen, and collect archaeological materials per federal/state standards
  • Identify and record features and structures within project areas
  • Photograph and map survey areas and testing locations
  • Complete field forms accurately (paper/electronic)
  • Maintain and organize field equipment and kits
  • Travel up to 100% during weekdays and some weekends as needed
