Job summary

SMX is seeking an experienced Federal Financial Business Analyst to enhance the BAS solution for federal clients. You will analyze budgeting processes, document requirements, and lead workshops with budget SMEs and stakeholders while delivering an updated planning application.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business, Finance, Accounting, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Public Administration, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience across federal financial management, business process analysis, data analytics and reporting, consulting, or operations analysis.
• Experience with federal government financial data and processes.
• Experience with data analysis, reconciliation, and exception resolution.
• Strong understanding of business process improvement methodologies.
• Analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking capabilities.
• Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to explain complex concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to work independently and in a client-facing consulting environment.
• Proficiency with MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Public Trust clearance or ability to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Develop a deep understanding of client objectives, financial operations, and strategic priorities.
• Analyze and document business processes, workflows, requirements, and decision-making needs.
• Facilitate workshops with stakeholders to identify process improvement opportunities.
• Recommend process, technology, and data solutions to improve efficiency and outcomes.
• Review policies and data structures to assess impacts on business and financial processes.
• Utilize BI and analytics tools to maximize value of client data assets.
• Guide clients in adopting solutions that improve operational effectiveness and reporting.
• Collaborate across teams to align business, data, and technology requirements.
• Create quality documentation across SDLC phases (RTM, FDD, design docs, user guides).
• Develop test plans, business use cases, and manage test execution.
