Job summary

SMX is seeking a federal financial business analyst to advance the BAS budgeting and spend solution for federal clients. The role is 100% remote with light travel and requires Public Trust clearance.

You will work with designers, developers, and budget experts to refine processes, create documentation, and implement improvements across SDLC. Lead workshops, analyze workflows, and propose data-driven solutions to optimize financial operations and reporting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business, Finance, Accounting, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Public Administration, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in federal financial management, business process analysis, data analytics, or related consulting roles.
• Experience with federal government financial data and processes.
• Experience with data analysis, reconciliation, and exception resolution.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Public Trust clearance or ability to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Develop understanding of client objectives, financial operations, and strategic priorities.
• Analyze and document business processes, workflows, requirements, and decision-making needs.
• Facilitate workshops with stakeholders to identify process improvements.
• Recommend process, technology, and data solutions to improve efficiency and outcomes.
• Review policies, system data structures, and procedures for impact on processes.
• Utilize BI and analytics tools to maximize value of client data assets.
• Guide clients in adopting solutions to improve performance and reporting.
• Collaborate across teams to ensure requirements are aligned and delivered.
• Create quality documentation across SDLC phases (RTM, FDD, design docs, user docs, training guides, online help).
• Develop test plans, use cases, and manage test execution.
