Job summary

Selective Insurance is seeking a Complex Claims Specialist to handle environmental liability claims in a remote role serving the North/East region. You will manage environmental loss exposures, including pollution incidents and toxic tort matters, while coordinating with insureds, brokers, and legal counsel.

Strong candidates have 8+ years of claims handling in primary P&C, with expertise in coverage analysis, negotiation, and complex claim resolutions. A JD or MBA is highly preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience handling Environmental and Toxic Tort claims.
• Ability to analyze claims, exposure, and trend data.
• Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and resolve coverage issues for environmental claims.
• Investigate claims via phone, written correspondence, and site visits as needed.
• Present claims and trends to leadership with coverage and exposure insights.
• Analyze information to determine ultimate exposure for insured and company.
• Negotiate and resolve claims within delegated authority.
• Prepare coverage letters explaining coverage position to insureds/agents.
• Report on trials and coordinate with reinsurers as needed.
• Refer and update appropriate parties on claims disposition and strategy.
