Job summary

Liberty Mutual Insurance is expanding its Environmental Claims team and seeks an experienced Environmental Claims Professional to manage high-exposure environmental, pollution, and mass litigation claims within our Commercial Specialty Lines portfolio. The Senior Technical Claims Specialist will own coverage analysis, investigation, litigation management, negotiation, and resolution.

Qualifications

• 5-7 years of commercial casualty claims experience, including environmental or pollution claims handling.
• Independent handling of complex, litigated matters with coverage analysis and reserving.
• Strong environmental coverage knowledge (pollution liability, exclusions) and related disputes.
• Experience managing defense counsel and consultants; able to coordinate multi-disciplinary teams.
• Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Own the claim end to end: determine coverage, investigate, assess liability, set reserves, evaluate exposure, negotiate settlements, and authorize payment.
• Drive litigation strategy: develop plans for each suit, including coverage positions and discovery.
• Build the right team for each matter with Home Office Legal, defense counsel, and environmental consultants.
• Manage outside counsel and ensure spending aligns with outcomes.
• Protect data: maintain financial processing integrity and confidentiality.
• Mentor and partner: coach colleagues and liaison with Underwriting and Reinsurance.
• Stay ahead of the law: monitor legislation and court decisions impacting pollution coverages.
• Contribute to special projects shaping team workflows.
