Job summary

Liberty Mutual Insurance's Environmental Complex Claims Team seeks a senior claims professional to own high‑exposure files from discovery to resolution, determine coverage, set reserves, direct litigation, and negotiate settlements.

You will lead multidisciplinary teams, mentor staff, and collaborate with Underwriting, Reinsurance, and other business units while working in a hybrid model near hub offices or remotely for qualified candidates.

Qualifications

• 10+ years handling complex commercial casualty or environmental liability claims.
• Deep knowledge of coverage analysis and environmental liability.
• Proven negotiation record on high‑exposure claims.
• Experience directing defense and coverage counsel.
• Strong communication with senior leaders.
• CPCU, AIC, ARM, or JD a plus; licensing as required.

Responsibilities

• Manage high-severity environmental and commercial casualty claims end to end, including coverage determination, liability analysis, reserving, negotiation, and payment.
• Analyze policy language, exclusions, and environmental liability provisions to take well-supported positions on complex coverage issues.
• Build resolution strategies, including discovery plans, reserve recommendations, and settlement approach.
• Assemble and direct the right team for each matter, including defense and coverage counsel, environmental consultants, Home Office Legal, and Home Office Claims.
• Partner with Underwriting, Reinsurance, and other business units.
• Mentor claims staff and advise Claims Management on legislative, court, and market developments affecting claims practices.
• Safeguard the integrity of claim payments and the confidentiality of claim files.
