Job summary

Pearson is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead 5–8 software engineers on the Enterprise Learning & Skills team. You will guide design discussions, ensure high engineering standards, and drive delivery for a large-scale, API-driven platform used globally to issue and verify digital credentials.

You’ll partner with Product, Customer Success, and external vendors, oversee onboarding and growth, and champion AI-assisted tooling while maintaining security and reliability across the team’s work.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software development experience.
• 2+ years managing or leading a software engineering team.
• Working familiarity with Ruby on Rails, React, AWS, PostgreSQL.
• Proven track record of reliable daily delivery.
• Strong collaboration and communication with engineers and stakeholders.
• Experience onboarding and developing engineers.
• Judgment on escalation to senior leadership.
• Adaptability and commitment to continuous learning.
• Understanding of information and data security fundamentals.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and support a team of 5–8 engineers building Ruby on Rails services and React frontends.
• Plan and allocate daily and sprint work, monitor delivery schedules, maintain project trajectory.
• Troubleshoot obstacles, clarify requirements, coordinate handoffs across engineers, teams, vendors.
• Triage bugs and production issues with attention to impact on customers.
• Maintain coding QA standards, test thoroughness, and team documentation.
• Provide real-time feedback; conduct regular 1:1s; recognize contributions.
• Own onboarding and skill development for new team members.
• Identify and introduce team-level process improvements; escalate as needed.
• Champion responsible use of AI-assisted development tools for coding, testing, and docs.
• Uphold secure, ethical engineering practices across ships.
