Job summary

Optum is seeking a Coder II to join our Health Information Management team. This role focuses on accurate coding of diagnoses and procedures (ICD-10-CM, CPT) to support data analytics and claims processing, with telecommute options from anywhere in the United States.

Required AHIMA or AAPC credential, 2+ years of coding/abstracting experience, and ICD-10 coding proficiency. Strong attention to detail, teamwork and ability to meet KPI-driven deadlines are essential for success.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• AHIMA or AAPC credential plus ongoing maintenance.
• 2+ years coding/abstracting experience.
• 2 years Emergency/Ancillary facility coding experience.
• Must have ICD-10 coding experience.
• Ability to pass pre-employment screening and coding assessment.

Responsibilities

• Assign ICD-10-CM diagnoses and CPT codes for ED admissions.
• Review provider documentation and determine reason for visit and diagnoses.
• Provide documentation feedback to providers as needed.
• Enter data into encoder/abstracting systems and ensure KPI adherence.
• Adhere to AHIMA coding standards and official guidelines.
• Support with OSHPD corrections and revenue cycle tasks.
