Job summary

Optum is a global health services organization delivering care through technology to enhance health outcomes. The Coder II role supports the Health Information Management Team by applying ICD-10-CM and CPT codes to patient records for data retrieval, analysis and claims processing.

The position emphasizes accuracy, documentation feedback, and adherence to AHIMA guidelines, with telecommuting allowed from anywhere in the U.S. for eligible candidates.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• AHIMA or AAPC credential necessary (RHIA/RHIT/CCS/CCS-P/CPC/CPC-H).
• Completion of AHIMA/AAPC coding program covering anatomy, physiology and coding.
• 2+ years coding/abstracting experience; ICD-10 coding experience required.
• Ability to use Windows PC, MS Word and EMR systems.
• Pass pre-employment checks including drug screen and background.

Responsibilities

• Assign ICD-10-CM/HCPCS/CPT codes for diagnoses and procedures.
• Review provider notes to determine reasons for visits and codes.
• Provide documentation feedback to providers per coding guidelines.
• Enter data into encoder/abstracting systems and ensure KPI targets.
• Assist with OSHPD corrections and revenue cycle support.
