Job summary

The Hanover Insurance Group is seeking a strategic Underwriting Specialist Specialty – Merit Specialty (Wholesale). This remote/hybrid role supports wholesale trading partners, underwriting, and growth across the E&S line of business with flexible work arrangements in the US.

Ideal candidates have 3–7+ years of specialty experience, strong underwriting judgment, and a proven track record in agency relationships. Travel for meetings may be required to service partnerships and drive profitability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
• 3–7+ years Specialty or standard commercial lines experience.
• 3–4+ years’ experience driving agency relationships resulting in profitable new and renewal business.
• Strong communication and judgment to support underwriting decisions.

Responsibilities

• Transacts with wholesale partners and underwrites new and renewal Specialty accounts.
• Manages portfolio to achieve gross written premium, profitability and mix goals.
• Identifies, solicits, pipelines, negotiates, and closes agency accounts.
• Partners with other Hanover departments to deliver comprehensive insurance solutions.
