Job summary

The Hanover Insurance Group is seeking an Underwriting Specialist Specialty – Merit Specialty (Wholesale) to join our E&S Casualty underwriting team. The role focuses on identifying, underwriting and selling new and renewal Specialty accounts with wholesale partners, aiming for profitable growth and alignment with appetite and mix goals.

The role offers flexible work arrangements; it may be hybrid or 100% remote anywhere in the US (excluding CA & NY).

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
• Generally, 3-7+ years Specialty or standard commercial lines experience.
• 3-4+ years’ experience driving agency relationships resulting in profitable new and renewal business as well as complex accounts.
• Demonstrates ability to adapt quickly to change, identify, analyze, and solve problems and willingness to being open to new and different ways of thinking.
• Communication with internal and external partners on underwriting matters.
• Judgment and decision making in level of authority and risk.
• Agile and adaptive – learn quickly and manage multiple projects.
• Teamwork and collaboration across departments.

Responsibilities

• Transacts business with appointed wholesale partners and select, underwriting and selling new and renewal Specialty accounts.
• Manage portfolio to achieve gross written premium, profitability, rate, retention and mix goals.
• Develop understanding of financial reporting information and performance measures.
• Identify market factors affecting pricing and apply to portfolio decisions.
• Build relationships with agents and other Hanover departments to deliver comprehensive insurance solutions.
• Present to agents and customers; utilize Claims and Loss Control to demonstrate technical expertise.
