Job summary

The Hanover Insurance Group, seeking an Underwriting Specialist Specialty – Merit Specialty (Wholesale), will identify, underwrite, and sell Specialty accounts while leveraging sales and analytical skills.

This full-time role offers flexible work arrangements (hybrid or 100% remote) and requires travel to meet clients. Bachelor’s degree and 3–7+ years in Specialty lines are preferred, with strong agency relationship experience and risk assessment capabilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• 3-7+ years’ experience in Specialty or standard commercial lines.
• 3-4+ years’ experience driving agency relationships resulting in profitable new and renewal business.
• Demonstrates ability to interact effectively with internal and external partners on underwriting matters.

Responsibilities

• Technical Underwriting: applies risk selection, exposure and hazard identification, coverage implications, and loss analysis.
• Portfolio Management & Financial Acumen: manages portfolio to achieve gross written premium and profitability goals.
• Sales Management: identifies, solicits, negotiates, and closes accounts aligned with business strategy.
• Keeps current on state/territory issues, regulations, and trends.
• Collaborates with other Hanover departments to leverage growth across lines of business.
