Job summary

The Hanover Insurance Group is seeking an Underwriting Specialist for Specialty – Merit Specialty (Wholesale) to join our growing team. This role can be remote or hybrid nationwide (excluding NY/CA) with travel as needed, focusing on identifying and underwriting profitable Specialty accounts through wholesale partners.

You will manage complex underwriting decisions, collaborate with sales and other partners, and drive growth while adhering to Hanover’s appetite and guidelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Typically 3–7+ years in specialty or standard commercial lines.
• 3–4+ years driving agency relationships resulting in profitable new and renewal business.
• Willingness to travel for meetings and client visits as needed.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite and manage Specialty accounts with balance of risk and appetite.
• Identify, solicit, pipeline, and close new business with wholesale trading partners.
• Provide clear pricing guidance and rating instructions for quotes to agents.
• Manage portfolio to meet profitability and growth targets.
