Job summary

Southern New Hampshire University is seeking a Data Security Engineer to design, implement, and maintain data protection controls across the enterprise data estate. This role focuses on encryption, IAM, masking, and secure data pipelines, collaborating with Security Operations and IT teams.

You will work 100% remotely from approved states and report to the Deputy CISO, contributing to governance, risk management, and secure-by-design initiatives.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in information security, cloud engineering, data engineering, or a related field.
• 2+ years focused on data protection or database security.
• Proficiency with SQL and database security configurations.
• Scripting and automation using platform APIs, IaC, or similar tooling.

Responsibilities

• Implements and maintains data protection controls across the enterprise data estate.
• Configures encryption controls and manages keys and vaulting.
• Implements least-privilege access models and conducts entitlement reviews.
• Harden security configurations for Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Azure SQL, and SQL Server.
• Embeds security controls into data ingestion, transformation, and pipeline workflows.
• Automates control deployment and integrates telemetry with Security Operations.
