Job summary

Husch Blackwell LLP is seeking a Data Engineering Manager to lead the design and build-out of the firm’s cloud-based data platform, establishing foundational infrastructure for analytics and AI. You will define data engineering standards, ensure data quality and governance, and coordinate with multiple stakeholders to deliver reliable data products.

The role requires strong SQL, cloud experience (Azure or AWS), Python, and leadership in data engineering.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS/engineering, information systems, or related field; graduate degree preferred.
• 3–5 years leading data engineering or closely related technical teams; setting direction and priorities.
• Experience managing budgets and tool/platform decisions.
• Strong understanding of modern data engineering practices for analytics and AI.
• Extensive experience with data management, transformation, performance, reliability, and scalability.
• Advanced SQL; design and optimize data structures in relational/other storage tech.
• Experience designing data solutions in Azure or AWS environments.
• Working knowledge of Python and data tooling; ability to review designs with engineers.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and build-out of the firm’s cloud-based data platform; establish foundational data infrastructure.
• Set standards for data engineering methods, testing, deployment, and documentation.
• Collaborate with Data Science & AI teams, IT Operations, and business leaders to translate needs into platform improvements.
• Ensure data quality, lineage, access controls, and governance within the platform.
• Manage projects, timelines, risks, and vendor relationships; document scope and decisions.
