Job summary

Husch Blackwell LLP is seeking a Data Engineering Manager to lead the design and build-out of the firm’s cloud-based data platform, enabling analytics, reporting, applications, and AI. You will set standards for data engineering, coordinate multiple teams, and ensure scalable, well-documented data products for stakeholders.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in CS or related field, 3–5 years of leadership in data engineering, strong SQL and Python, and cloud experience with Azure or AWS.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or related field.
• 3–5 years of experience leading data engineering teams with direction and standards.
• Experience managing budgets and cost-conscious decisions about tools and services.

Responsibilities

• Supervise all Data Engineering staff.
• Foster growth and skill development in direct reports.
• Delegate tasks to ensure workload balance and efficiency.
• Conduct regular performance evaluations and set clear goals.
• Promote team engagement through regular communication and collaboration.
• Identify training opportunities to keep capabilities current with cloud technologies.
• Provide technical and architectural leadership for the firm’s data platform.
• Define and promote data engineering best practices (code quality, testing, deployment, monitoring).
• Design, implement, and maintain data ingestion, consolidation, and data availability for downstream use.
• Ensure scalable, reliable data solutions with managed performance and capacity.
• Partner with Data Science & AI, IT Operations, and business leaders to translate challenges into platform improvements.
• Contribute to data and AI governance with data quality, lineage, and access controls.
• Lead planning, deployment, and ongoing management of data engineering projects.
• Prioritize work based on firm needs and capacity.
• Manage and document project scope, timelines, risks, and decisions.
• Maintain relationships with technology vendors and service providers.
