Job summary

Canonically seeking a Software Engineer, Sustaining Engineering to tackle Linux-based infrastructure and OpenStack/Kubernetes challenges. You will work across the stack, from bare metal to cloud orchestration, and contribute upstream fixes while supporting Ubuntu customers and communities.

The role is globally remote, with travel up to 10% for team meetings and conferences. You will diagnose complex issues, collaborate with Canonical's field, support, and product teams, and engage with upstream

Qualifications

• Professional software engineer experience.
• Strong Linux/OpenStack/Kubernetes cloud tech experience.
• Strong development with Python/Go/C/C++ on Linux.
• Ability to troubleshoot with gdb and similar tools.
• Familiarity with Git repositories and branching.
• Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for events.
• Open source affinity and community involvement.

Responsibilities

• Resolve complex customer problems related to Ubuntu, OpenStack, or Kubernetes.
• Maintain close relationships with Canonical field, support and product engineering teams.
• Participate in upstream communities.
• Develop fixes, backport patches, and coordinate with upstream for inclusion.
• Review code produced by other engineers.
• Demonstrate good judgement in technical methods and techniques.
• Prioritize work and manage time effectively against priorities.
• Participate in team discussions to improve processes, tools, and documentation.
• Maintain clear, technical and concise communications.
• Work from home and travel internationally up to 10% of work time for meetings and events.
