Job summary

NMS seeks a remote head cook to manage kitchen staff in a remote Alaskan camp, ensuring a safe, efficient operation and high-quality food service. The role emphasizes training, leadership, and adherence to safety standards in challenging conditions.

The candidate will supervise up to 30 on-site staff, develop recipes, ensure compliance with protocols, and coordinate with safety personnel while maintaining strong communication with clients and team members.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent with training.
• 5+ years of cooking experience in high-volume restaurant settings.
• Ability to instruct and train others.
• Alaska Food Workers Card and/or ServSafe Certification upon hire.
• Pass pre-employment requirements (drug test, physical, fit for duty, hearing test).
• Teamwork and ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Ability to stand for 12 hours per shift and live in dormitory-style camps.
• English required (read/write/speak).
• Adhere to safety policies and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Selects and develops recipes based on type of food to be prepared.
• Cooks or prepares food according to recipe.
• Prepares, cooks, and serves meats, sauces, vegetables, soups, and other foods.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of work areas.
• Supervise staff and coordinate safety activities in a remote camp environment.
