Job summary

Remote Co. is seeking a Design and Production Assistant to handle book text design and typesetting for scholarly works from a fully remote setting. You will collaborate with editors to ensure text accuracy, create print-ready files, and support design and production processes.

The role emphasizes InDesign proficiency, attention to typography, and the ability to manage backlists and new formats with minimal supervision. 100% remote work is offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in an appropriate field or equivalent experience.
• Three or more years in book text design, preferably with scholarly titles.
• Experience with university press or nonprofit academic publishers is preferred.

Responsibilities

• 50% Interior Design: oversee typesetting of 30 book interiors per year and provide production-ready files.
• 25% Reprints: update backlist files for reprinting and new formats.
• 15% Production and design assistance: assist production team and book designer with tasks.
• 5% Software and technology: stay updated on design software and pursue development opportunities.
• 5% Other clerical tasks as assigned.
