Job summary

University of Nebraska Press seeks a Designer-Compositor to join the Editorial, Design, and Production department. You will design and typeset journals and books, selecting cover art, determining interior types, and producing print-ready files.

The role requires strong typography, layout, and coordination with editors and production staff; remote work options may be available under UNL's Alternative Worksite program.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in graphic design or related field; additional relevant experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis.
• Expertise in Adobe Creative Cloud, esp. InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator; knowledge of typography and page layout; and a developed sense of composition and color.
• Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate schedules and work independently.

Responsibilities

• Design and typeset assigned number of full-length journals and books per year, covering and interior; select cover art and create final print-ready PDFs.
• Consult and coordinate with lead designer, editors, and production staff to obtain information and maintain schedules.
• Conduct quality-control checks of typeset files and perform design reviews as required.
