Job summary

SOLV Energy is seeking a BESS Engineer III to lead design and engineering of battery energy storage systems across projects. You will provide technical direction, mentor junior engineers, and ensure safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance in a fully remote role.

This position offers collaboration with cross-functional teams, travel to project sites as needed, and engagement in business development through technical consultations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; master's preferred.
• 3+ years of electrical engineering experience focused on BESS, renewables, or power systems.
• Expertise in design, integration, and optimization of BESS.
• Knowledge of BESS control strategies and optimization software.
• Proficiency in PSS/E, PSCAD, and other simulation tools.
• Strong knowledge of NEC, IEEE, IBC, NFPA, and utility standards.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
• PE license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as SME for BESS engineering scopes, providing guidance and technical direction to project teams.
• Lead design and engineering of battery energy storage systems (BESS), ensuring compliance with contracts, utilities, and AHJ requirements.
• Review feasibility studies, site assessments, and system sizing analyses to recommend optimal BESS configurations and future augmentation provisions.
• Serve as a senior technical contributor across electrical, civil, structural, SCADA, and HV engineering scopes on assigned projects.
• Manage Engineers of Record and third-party engineering partners to ensurescopeclarity andtimelydelivery.
• Coordinate with fire protection engineers and local fire departments/ AHJ’s.
• Develop and review technical specifications, drawings, and documentation for BESS components to support procurement activities.
• Provide technical oversight during procurement including vendor recommendations and drawing reviews.
• Collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and contractors to design, procure, install, and commission BESS systems.
• Oversee system modeling, simulation, and analysis to optimize performance, efficiency, and reliability.
• Provide engineering support during construction, including field issue resolution, design clarifications, and minor redesigns.
• Provide engineering support for testing, validation, commissioning, energization, and initial synchronization.
• Ability to mentor junior engineers and project teams, providing guidance, training and lessons learned on BESS design principles and practices.
• Stay current with industry trends, standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Support business development through proposals, presentations, and technical consultations.
• Represent SOLV Engineering in customer and client meetings.
• Participate in regular team meetings/ calls.
• Travel as required to support project execution.
• Complete other responsibilities as assigned.
