Job summary

somewhere is seeking an Assistant Controller for US accounting, close and AI automation. This hands-on role focuses on maintaining a strong monthly close, supporting audits, and modernizing procedures with technology.

You will mentor the Staff Accountant, oversee AP/AR and bookkeeping, and collaborate with leadership to strengthen controls. A CPA or equivalent is preferred, and experience with Claude AI is highly valued.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of accounting or finance experience.
• Strong understanding of financial statements and close processes.
• Experience owning or supporting a monthly close.
• Experience supporting internal or external audits.
• Strong Excel skills and ability to build models, reports, and workflows.
• Experience with a U.S.-based company is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Own and manage the monthly close, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
• Review reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and close-related activities.
• Oversee Staff Accountant work across AP, AR, and bookkeeping.
• Provide guidance and prioritization to the accounting team.
• Support audit responses with thorough documentation.
• Identify improvements to accounting processes and controls.
