Job summary

CONTACT Care Line is East Tennessee’s first crisis hotline. Our 988 Crisis Program provides text and phone-based support for individuals experiencing emotional distress or suicidal crisis.

Crisis Counselors assess risk, offer compassionate support, document interactions, and collaborate to create safety plans. The role requires handling chat, text, and calls, with two chat interactions during chat shifts and strict adherence to documentation timelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work or related mental health field or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 1 year of mental health or crisis intervention experience.
• Strong empathic listening and reflective communication skills.
• Ability to stay calm in high-stress situations and identify imminent risk.

Responsibilities

• Respond to 988 chat, text, and phone interactions promptly and compassionately.
• Manage two concurrent chat interactions during chat-focused shifts per policy.
• Assess and mitigate suicide risk using established safety protocols.
• Document interactions accurately within required timeframes.
• Engage in training and SBAR communications for escalated cases.
• Maintain active Slack presence and participate in Teams meetings.
