Job summary

Layton Construction is seeking a Project Engineer to assist Project Managers in ensuring installed work meets plan and specification requirements. You will review shop drawings, assess constructability, and communicate issues to the architect while supporting scheduling and meetings.

Responsibilities include preparing weekly progress reports, updating schedules, aiding in bidding and scope development for trades, and maintaining documentation logs. Safety adherence is required at all times.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in construction management or related field or equivalent experience.
• 1+ year of experience with a commercial general contractor or internship preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints.
• Working knowledge of Word and Excel.
• Willingness to adapt plans and cooperate with teams.
• Familiarity with scheduling programs is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assists Project Managers to ensure work meets plans and specifications.
• Review shop drawings and submittals for compliance.
• Analyze plans for value, constructability, and material usage.
• Communicate inconsistencies to the architect.
• Attend and document project team meetings and distribute minutes.
• Publish weekly progress reports and manage information flow.
• Update project schedules as needed.
• Assist in bidding and scope development for trade contractors.
• Coordinate shop drawing deadlines and milestone dates.
• Maintain logs for drawings, clarifications, changes and proposals.
• Advise on concrete pours and inspect reinforcing.
• Coordinate slump and compaction testing to verify specs.
• Review field procedures and installation for compliance.
• Analyze work methods to improve production efficiency.
• Comply with safety policies and report unsafe activities.
