Job summary

Electric Power Systems (EPS) is seeking a Relay Technician II to perform testing, commissioning, and maintenance of protection and control systems with increasing independence. This role emphasizes safety, technical proficiency in relay systems, and supporting project execution through testing, troubleshooting, reporting, and client communication.

You will develop expertise in relay protection schemes and advanced testing practices while collaborating with Senior Relay Technicians and Engineers

Qualifications

• Must pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.
• Overtime work and travel for periods.
• Valid driver's license with good driving record.
• Hands-on experience installing, maintaining, testing & repairing protective relays in substations.
• Troubleshooting distribution and transmission controls circuits.
• Knowledge of relay test software.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to safety policies and participate in job briefings and hazard mitigation.
• Apply Human Performance Error Reduction concepts in daily work.
• Promote safe work behaviors and safety initiatives.
• Perform relay testing with assistance from Senior Technicians and Engineers.
• Execute element, logic, and basic functional testing of protective relays and control systems.
• Perform and evaluate in-service readings to verify system performance.
• Conduct end-to-end testing and validate protection system operation.
• Perform communication installations and testing including SCADA, GOOSE, Modbus, fiber optics, and related protocols.
• Read and interpret one-line/three-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, and complex protection logic.
• Develop testing and isolation plans for safe execution.
• Create detailed reports with test results and calibration docs.
• Communicate clearly with team and clients/engineers.
• Coordinate work with engineers and other technicians.
