Job summary

Electric Power Systems (EPS) is hiring a Relay Technician II to test, commission and maintain protection and control systems for demanding clients across data centers, utilities, and industrial facilities. The role emphasizes safety, technically proficient relay work, and developing expertise with relay protection schemes.

You will support project execution through testing, troubleshooting, reporting, and coordination with Senior Relay Technicians and Engineers.

Qualifications

  • Pre-employment drug screen is required.
  • Background check will be conducted.
  • Overtime and travel may be required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Hands-on experience installing, maintaining, testing & repairing protective relays in transmission, generation or distribution substations.
  • Knowledge of relay test software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, or similar equipment.
  • Bachelor’s or associate degree in electrical/electronic technology or engineering preferred.
  • NETA II Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to safety policies and participate in job briefings and hazard mitigation.
  • Apply Human Performance Error Reduction concepts in daily work.
  • Promote safe work behaviors and support safety initiatives.
  • Perform relay testing with assistance from Senior Relay Technicians and Engineers.
  • Execute element, logic, and basic functional testing of protective relays and control systems.
  • Perform and evaluate in-service readings to verify system performance.
  • Conduct end-to-end testing and validate protection system operation.
  • Perform communication installations and testing (SCADA, GOOSE, Modbus, fiber).
  • Read and interpret one-line/three-line diagrams and complex protection logic.
  • Develop testing and isolation plans to ensure safe execution.
  • Create detailed reports including test results and calibration docs.
  • Communicate clearly with team, clients, engineers and project stakeholders.
