Job summary

Electric Power Systems (EPS) is seeking a Relay Technician II to perform testing, commissioning, and maintenance of protection and control systems with growing independence. This mid-level role requires strict safety discipline and strong relay expertise, supporting project execution through testing, troubleshooting, and reporting.

You will work with Senior Technicians and Engineers, develop relay protection schemes, read diagrams, develop testing plans, and create detailed commissioning records

Qualifications

• Pass a pre-employment drug screen due to safety sensitive position.
• Criminal background check required and satisfactory.
• Willingness to overtime and travel out of town.
• Valid driver's license with good driving record.
• Hands-on experience installing, maintaining, testing & repairing protective relays in transmission, generation, or distribution substations.
• Knowledge of relay test software.
• Experience with circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear or similar equipment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform relay testing with assistance from Senior Relay Technicians and Engineers.
• Execute element, logic, and basic functional testing of protective relays and control systems.
• Review in-service readings to verify performance and identify abnormalities.
• Conduct end-to-end testing and validate protection system operation.
• Perform communications testing (SCADA, GOOSE, Modbus, fiber optics) and related protocols.
• Analyze relay operations, event records, and system data for troubleshooting.
• Read one-line, three-line diagrams and protection logic; develop testing/iso plans.
• Create detailed reports including test results and commissioning records.
• Coordinate work with engineers, project teams, and other technicians to ensure project alignment.
