Job summary

The Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians in Michigan is seeking a Facilities Manager to oversee tribally owned buildings in the Upper Peninsula.

The role manages daily operations, coordinates maintenance, and ensures safety and compliance across assigned properties. Responsibilities include supervising maintenance and custodial staff, coordinating vendors, performing inspections, and supporting procurement and inventory tasks under the Director of Facilities and Construction.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED; AAS in Facilities Management preferred.
• Minimum three years of facility operations/management experience.
• Experience in tribal office settings and space cost accounting preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and insurability; background check required.
• Knowledge of building systems, safety procedures, and maintenance best practices.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day operations of tribally owned buildings in the Upper Peninsula.
• Coordinate and schedule maintenance and custodial staff; document task completion.
• Respond to facility issues by hands-on work or coordinating with staff/vendors.
• Conduct regular inspections to assess facility conditions and safety compliance.
• Support procurement, inventory, and vendor invoice processing under the Director of Facilities and Construction.
• Maintain relationships with tenants, staff, and contractors; ensure records are kept.
