Job summary

Banyan Treatment Centers is seeking a compassionate Recovery Support Specialist to provide direct support and supervision within inpatient behavioral health, mental health, and substance use treatment programs.

The RSS will build rapport with patients, observe behaviors, document observations, and support staff to maintain a structured, recovery-focused environment. The role requires strong communication, empathy, and teamwork in a clinical setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent or higher.
• Minimum age 21; valid driver’s license if driving is assigned.
• Experience in behavioral health, substance use disorder treatment, or mental health settings preferred.
• Detoxification/residential experience preferred.
• Behavioral health certification or related education preferred.
• Strong observation, communication, and documentation skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team.

Responsibilities

• Provide continuous patient supervision and conduct safety checks.
• Monitor patient behavior and environment; document observations and report concerns.
• Respond to crisis situations using approved de-escalation techniques.
• Ensure adherence to facility rules while maintaining a therapeutic approach.
• Measure vital signs and conduct CLIA-waived testing as trained.
• Supervise medication administration when allowed; assist admissions and discharges.
• Support patient engagement in treatment programming and daily routines.
