Job summary

Cape Fear Valley Health System is seeking an ED Registration Clerk to register patients in adult and pediatric emergency departments, completing the process quickly and accurately. You will collect liabilities and verify insurance at discharge, ensuring patient data integrity throughout the ED flow.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 2 years insurance/clerical experience within a hospital or medical office setting preferred.
• College courses in Business, Medical Office Administration, Health Care Administration, and/or Computer Technology preferred.

Responsibilities

• Registers emergency service patients in a fast-paced environment, creating patient accounts within 90 seconds of arrival.
• Queries EAD and enters accurate patient demographics to obtain MRN and account number.
• Places patient identification armbands on ED patients after accounts are created.
• Obtains demographic, guarantor, and insurance information and documents it in the registration system.
• Registers patients in observation or admission status and obtains physician orders for services.
• Performs insurance eligibility/benefit verification and documents in the registration system.
• Informs patients of liabilities and collects co-pays, co-insurances, deductibles, and deposits at discharge.
• Provides timely coverage of the work area and supports clinical partners.
