Job summary

Watco is hiring a conductor/switchman to control and coordinate train movements while switching railcars in yards, plants, or similar locations. The role focuses on safe, efficient unloading and loading of cars as part of Watco's service to customers.

The position requires proficiency in executing switching orders, coordinating with engineers and dispatchers, and maintaining accurate records. A High School diploma or GED is required, with on-the-job training provided.

Qualifications

• Must be able to pass and obtain all required testing and certifications.
• Ability to read switching orders and follow instructions accurately.
• Willingness to perform manual labor in a railroad environment.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate predictable, reliable attendance.
• Follow written and verbal directions to complete tasks on schedule.
• Read, write, and communicate in English; understand basic math.
• Read switching orders and supervise train crews as directed.
• Coordinate switching operations with engineers and yard staff.
• Operate track switches and assist with coupling/uncoupling cars.
• Maintain records of cars switched, origins, destinations, and cargo.
