Job summary

Watco is hiring a conductor/engineer to control and coordinate train movements, switching railcars in yards, plants, and facilities to load and unload safely and efficiently. This is a manual labor role requiring training during a prescribed period and adherence to railroad rules.

You will read orders, communicate with crew, and operate locomotives while maintaining safety, timeliness, and accuracy in all switching tasks.

Qualifications

• Must be able to pass training and required testing.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate reliable attendance and follow directions to complete tasks.
• Read and communicate in English, understand basic math.
• Read switching orders and coordinate with train crews.
• Operate locomotive safely according to railroad rules and signals.
• Read and interpret track warrants, signals, and bulletins.
• Coordinate with dispatcher and crew, give/receive switching information.
• Throw switches, couple/uncouple cars, and assist with train operations.
• Maintain records of cars switched and cargo.
