Job summary

Watco is seeking a conductor/switchman to control and coordinate train movements in yards, industrial plants, or terminals to facilitate the loading and unloading of railcars in a safe and efficient manner. This is a manual labor position requiring training during an introductory period.

The role encompasses following procedures, communicating with crew and dispatchers, and maintaining records of cars switched, including origin, destination, and cargo.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and understand basic math.
• Ability to follow directions, learn procedures and apply safety rules.
• Experience coordinating multiple train crews and communicating with dispatchers.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate predictable attendance and work toward assigned tasks.
• Read switching orders and coordinate with engineers and yard personnel.
• Speak with crew via radio to relay switching information and ensure safe operations.
• Observe track conditions and signal protections; assist in switching and coupling operations.
• Maintain records of cars switched, origins, destinations, and cargo.
