Job summary

The Iowa Department of Transportation is seeking a Driver & Identification Service Center Specialist focused on delivering exceptional customer service in a fast-paced environment. You will help Iowans obtain identification documents, issue licenses and IDs, and determine eligibility under REAL ID standards.

This role blends office and field duties, requires strict adherence to safety and integrity values, and involves administering tests, reviewing records, and supporting teammates through

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school (or GED) and three years of full-time clerical or closely-related work.
• Three years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in any field equals one year of full-time experience.
• Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes six months of full-time work as a Driver & Identification Service Center Associate.

Responsibilities

• Acting as a point of contact for customer questions and inquiries through answering phones, conducting driving tests, or issuing licenses and IDs
• Providing expert knowledge of driver’s license eligibility, licensing requirements, and identification requirements based on the federal REAL ID standards and license issuance, or identification documents off of eligibility
• Administering and scoring motorcycle skills, car, truck, passenger, and CDL pre-trip, skills, and road driving examinations
• Reviewing State and Federal records and database information to determine issuance/non-issuance eligibility
• Supporting teammates through knowledge sharing, training, mentoring, etc.
