Qualifications

• Must complete training and obtain certification by the Office of Emergency Telecommunications Services (OETS) in the Department of Law and Public Safety as required by NJAC 17:24-2.2 during trainee period.
• Ability to learn to operate communications systems and dispatch procedures after training.
• Ability to communicate clearly in English and to record information accurately.

Responsibilities

• Receives and responds to telephone or electronic requests for emergency assistance.
• Learns to verify and record caller location, nature, severity, and status of emergencies.
• Learns to operate dispatch equipment and announce units to respond to incidents.
• Maintains/update logs and records across radio, telephone, and computer systems.
• Coordinates dispatching of units across jurisdictions.
• Assists in maintaining communications with responding units and monitoring status.
