Job summary

Qualus seeks a Relay Settings Engineer to join the Design Engineering team in Wisconsin. You will design and coordinate protective relaying schemes, perform settings calculations, and model short-circuit studies for client electrical systems.

Ideal candidates have a BSEE with a power focus, 1–3 years in protection and relay settings, and experience with ASPEN or CAPE. Strong analytical, communication, and multitasking skills are essential for success.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) with a power systems focus from an ABET accredited school.
  • 1-3 years of experience in protection and control engineering and relay settings.
  • Experience using ASPEN or CAPE.
  • Strong analytical and computer skills.
  • Identify necessary software to complete needed design work.
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills.
  • Possess ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of support personnel.
  • Highly motivated 'self-starter'.
  • Proven multitasking skills and excellent document management and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design, specification, setting calculation, and coordination of protective relaying and relay control schemes.
  • Modeling, short circuit and overstressed breaker studies and recommendations for proposed generation interconnections to a client’s electrical system.
  • Ensure all relay settings activities align with company policies and client design standards.
  • Present technical solutions to customers and respond in real time to technical concerns.
  • Collaborate with Qualus groups to develop and implement technical solutions supporting Engineering Department objectives.
