Job summary

Shermco Industries is seeking a Protection and Control Technician II-IV to install, test, and maintain protective relay equipment for HV utilities. The role covers RTU/telecom upgrades, relay systems from SEL/GE/ABB/Westinghouse, and field reporting for regulatory purposes.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in electrical testing, a technical degree or military power training, and strong knowledge of protection and control in substations. Travel and field work are required.

Qualifications

5+ years in electrical testing with protection and control focus.
B.S. in Engineering/Technology or technical diploma or military electrical training.
Experience with SEL, GE, ABB, Westinghouse relays.
Experience with substation RTUs and telecom equipment.
Experience scoping, scheduling and budgeting for P&C projects.
Experience leading protection & control teams in HV substations.
Familiar with NERC CIP requirements.

Responsibilities

Install, commission, test, and maintain protective relay equipment and related systems.
Perform functional testing on protection/control circuitry for HV assets.
Upgrade RTUs and telecom equipment for clients.
Work with SEL/GE/other relays and corresponding processors.
Interpret diagrams and configurations, identify discrepancies.
Document and submit test reports for clients/regulatory use.
Complete time/expense reporting and maintain company vehicle.
