Job summary
Shermco is seeking a Protection and Control Technician to install, test, and maintain protective relays, RTUs, and telecom equipment for HV utility projects. The role involves field work, climbing, lifting, and extensive travel to client sites across the region.
The ideal candidate has 5+ years in electrical testing with protection and control equipment and substations, plus experience with SEL/GE/ABB relays and substation RTUs. Overtime and training opportunities provided.
Qualifications
- 5+ years in electrical testing with protection and control focus
- B.S. in engineering/tech or technical school or military experience
- Experience with transmission and distribution relays (SEL/GE/ABB/Westinghouse)
- Experience with substation RTUs and telecom equipment for utility projects
Responsibilities
- Install, commission, test, and maintain protective relay equipment and RTUs
- Perform functional testing on protection and control circuits
- Upgrade RTU and telecom systems for clients
- Review and document test reports for clients and regulatory use
- Read wiring diagrams and configurations and spot discrepancies
- Complete time and expense reports and maintain vehicle upkeep
