Job summary

Shermco is seeking a Relay Tech/Protection & Controls Technician to install, commission, test, and maintain protective relay equipment and telecom systems for HV substations. The role requires experience with SEL, GE, ABB relays and RTUs, and the ability to interpret wiring and schematics.

Candidate must have 5+ years in electrical testing, a relevant degree or military tech training, and willingness to travel to client sites.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in electrical testing with protection and control focus.
• Experience with transmission/distribution relays (SEL, GE, ABB, Westinghouse).
• Experience with substation RTUs and telecom equipment for brownfield/greenfield projects.
• Familiar with NERC CIP requirements.

Responsibilities

• Install, commission, test, and maintain protective relay equipment and related telecom gear.
• Perform functional testing on protection/control circuitry for HV substations.
• Upgrade RTU and telecom systems for various clients.
• Review and document test reports for client reporting and compliance.
• Interpret wiring/schematics and identify discrepancies.
• Complete time and expense reporting and maintain vehicle in good condition.
